Every zipline on Maui has a minimum age, a minimum and maximum weight and a set of health rules, and every one of them weighs riders at check-in. The limits vary more than you might expect, which matters if your group spans a 5-year-old and an adult near 250 lb.

At Jungle Zipline the listing says customers are weighed on site and there is no refund outside the limits; Kapalua and Skyline say the same. One jungle zipline guest wrote that she had not seen the weight limit when booking, and her husband had to stay behind after a 90-minute drive. Weigh yourself at home, dressed and in shoes, before you book.
What if someone in your group is over 250 lb?
Book NorthShore Zipline, which takes riders up to 270 lb; the Skyline courses go to 260 lb.

Five at NorthShore, six at Jungle Zipline, eight at Skyline Haleakala and ten at Skyline Ka'anapali and Kapalua.
For young children the two Haiku courses are the realistic choices. Jungle Zipline guests mention grandchildren of 7, 9 and 10 and teens of 15 and 17 enjoying the same tour, and a very small child in one 4-star review had a blast.
Can children ride on their own?
They ride their own line, but every course expects an adult alongside: at Jungle Zipline, children under 13 ride with a guardian or family member aged 16 or over.
Guides clip riders in and handle the braking on the jungle course, so children do not need strength or technique. At Kapalua an adult must zip with anyone aged 10 to 17, and at the Skyline courses under-16s must be accompanied.
How much do children pay?
Half price on the 8-line jungle tour (ages 6 to 14 on Viator), a smaller discount at NorthShore, and the adult price at Skyline and Kapalua.

All courses exclude pregnant guests and advise against riding with serious back, neck or heart problems or after recent surgery.
You also need to manage stairs and uneven ground: the jungle course has one steep climb that you make twice, and the Skyline courses ask riders to hike about half a mile. Skyline adds no scuba diving in the 24 hours before your tour, Kapalua requires riders to be independently mobile without walking aids, and no course allows alcohol beforehand.
How do you plan a zipline day with kids?
Check everyone's age and weight first, then pick a morning slot on a Haiku course and keep the afternoon easy.
